It is with deep sadness that I post the loss of yet another great Martial Artist, Shihan Bob Long. Bob began training with Hanshi Sr. back in the 70's and became one of the best Tournament Champions the Hombu Dojo ever produced.
He was an incredible technician both in and out of the ring, with blazing speed. During his tenure with the Hombu Dojo, he maintained the Bob Long School Of Self Defense in New Jersey and trained many of his own champions, including his son Brian.
He appeared with Hanshi Sr., Shihan Joe Lamantia, and a then 17 year old Hanshi Jr. in the documentary film "The Superweapon" in 1975.
THE SUPER WEAPON: 1975
Bob was one of Hanshi Sr.'s favorite Students and Ukes because of his focus, speed and technique.
Hanshi Sr. awarded him the rank of Hachidan, and after his death in 1994, Bob left the Association and formed his own System.
I will remember him as an incredible Martial Artist and friend.
Though we parted ways, I always respected him and his ability. My deepest condolences to his wife and children.
God Bless you Bob, Dad is waiting at the gate.
